Art + Femenism Hosts Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon Events in an Effort to Close the Gender Gap Online

Studies show that fewer than 16% of Wikipedia contributors identify as female and 75% are under the age of 30. Because of this, Wikipedia’s content is skewed by the lack of representation by women and important stories remain untold.

To combat the lack of female representation, Art+Feminism is hosting Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon events at various Southern California museums and art institutions every weekend in March.
I invite you to be a part of the change and help lessen this disparity so that more cis and transgender women and their accomplishments are represented on the world's go-to source for information by joining us at one of the following Edit-a-Thon events:

Saturday, March 9: Vincent Price Art Museum at East Los Angeles College hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Latinx Women+Non-Binary Artists. A Wikipedia training session for beginners will take place at Noon.
Address/Time: 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez (Monterey Park), Noon–4pm.

Sunday, March 10: Hammer Museum hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Women+Film+Media. Wikipedia training sessions for beginners will take place at Noon and 3pm, and a free photo booth invites women artists and filmmakers to stop by and have their portraits taken for Wikimedia Commons.
Address/Time: 10899 Wilshire Boulevard (Westwood), Noon–5pm.

Sunday, March 17: LACMA hosts an edit-a-thon focused on Women+Design+Craft. Wikipedia training sessions for beginners will be held at Noon and 3pm. At 2pm, LACMA Associate Curator Staci Steinberger will lead a free tour of West of Modernism: California Graphic Design, 1975–1995, focusing on key women represented in the exhibition.
Address/Time: 5905 Wilshire Boulevard (Miracle Mile), Noon–5pm.

Note: LACMA offers free supervised activities for children (ages 3-1/2–12) through the Andell Family Sundays program. To participate in these activities, follow the directions on the RSVP form.

RSVP to attend any of the Edit-a-Thon's and make sure to bring your laptop or tablet to create and improve Wikipedia pages with a bit of research and writing while collaborating with other women to combat gender bias on Wikipedia.
